How does sponsorship work?
As a sponsor, you make a monthly contribution to your chosen program. Unlike many charities that put money into a general fund, your WINKIDS donations will go directly to the programs of your choice. Funds are distributed to the local WIN affiliated organization, run by local community leaders. They will then distribute the funds to the programs you have specifically chosen.

Who can be a sponsor?
Anyone who can afford the low, regular monthly donations can sponsor a child.  There are no restrictions – old, young, married, single, groups, schools, classes, teams, companies, associations etc., are all suitable sponsors. If you prefer, you may also make 1-time donations.

How much does sponsorship cost?
Generally, sponsorship costs between $25 and $50 a month depending on the program you choose. Obviously you can donate more if you wish.  On average, 80% of your money is spent directly on the programs you have sponsored.  The remaining 20% is spent on administration and finding new sponsors to raise additional funds.  Funds are distributed by local community leaders directly to the programs you have specifically chosen. Because these programs are created and managed locally, there are no "middle men" or staff expenses that increase administrative costs. It is also why WIN programs are more accepted and successful in their communities.

How can I be sure that my money will be spent properly?
All WIN affiated organizations are independently audited to ensure all funds are managed and spent appropriately. Where possible, they are registered NGO's in their own countries.

Will I be the only person sponsoring a particular program?
This depends on how much you choose to donate each month and the type of program you sponsor. Larger projects may require many Sponsors to fully fund. The unique WINKIDS website automatically teams sponsors with similar interests together until a program is fully funded.

What do I receive when I become a sponsor?
You'll receive a welcome pack containing photos and a profiles of the programs you are sponsoring.  This also includes information about the people, families and local communities involved.  This is all on top of the great feeling you'll have that you're "making a difference."

Can a sponsorship cause problems within the community?
No, because all sponsorships are created and managed locally by local leaders who know everyone in the community  personally. They organize each opportunity in the way that best serves all individuals and projects involved.

How often will I hear from my sponsored child?
As a sponsor you will generally get at least  two letters or emails a year from the children, families or projects you sponsor, or someone writing on their behalf – like a school teacher or project leader.  This may vary depending on availability of computers and such. You will also receive copies of our WinKids newsletter filled with highlights about all our sponsored people, projects and communities.

Can I write to my sponsored child?
Yes, it is encouraged.  We will provide guidelines about what to include in your letters, and more importantly what not to include, so you don't inadvertently offend anyone due to cultural differences, or by inappropriate references, etc.  All letters are sent to the local  WIN affiliated organizations who pass these on.  Children especially love to hear from their sponsors and many find it easier to write back if they are already receiving letters, but please remember that many of them have never been to school and cannot write letters yet, or don't have access to computers for sending emails!

Can I send gifts to the child I sponsor?
Generally, yes.  However, the sending of large or expensive material gifts is discouraged so as to avoid any rivalry, jealousy or animosity between children, families or other participants.  Therefore gifts should be small, light and inexpensive.  WIN can offer advice on what type of gifts to send, or you can send appropriate gifts directly from our online catalogs (coming soon).

Can I visit a child or family that I sponsor?
Yes.  You can arrange to visit your sponsored children or families by contacting us first. We will help to facilitate the trip as much as possible, although obviously you will have to finance the trip yourself.   Visiting a project can be a valuable, fulfilling and educational event, enabling you to develop a tangible understanding of the real value of your contributions.  You will see the projects that you are helping to make possible and see the difference the work is making to the lives of everyone in our communities.  There are certain guidelines and protocols that must be followed to ensure that visits are conducted safely and in a way that will benefit both child and sponsor. Just contact WIN for more information.

How long will my sponsorship last?
You may sponsor a child for as long as you wish, there is no minimum period.  As our work is generally on long-term projects, it is hoped that you will want to remain a sponsor for some time.  Children are normally sponsored until the end of their secondary education, generally eighteen years of age.  However, circumstances can change during your sponsorship: the child's family might migrate to another area, the charities work within that community might come to an end or simply your financial circumstances could change.  You can stop sponsorship at any time, no questions asked.
